What is Project 2021?
Over the course of this year, I am trying to tell a story between all of my games. While you do not need to play any prior or following games to enjoy this, the lore does build. Can you piece together the story that is being told?
Canon Games (2021):
- Out Of Time
- Armor Of God
- Death Percent
- Rouge Royale

Tips:
If you do not like random encounters, they can be disabled in the settings menu. If you want to grind XP, you can set the random encounter rate to high.
Music and Sound levels can be adjusted in the settings menu, use it from the main menu or from the gear icon in game.
Mechanics:
Traditional Turn-based gameplay with the ability to time dodging or attacking correctly to deal or avoid damage.
Two health bars, mind and heart. You have to keep them both above 0% otherwise suffer a damage penalty.
Search around for the pieces of the "Armor of God" to enable you to fight the Demons.

The Armor of God Includes:
- The Belt of Truth
- Breastplate of Righteousness
- Boots of Readiness
- Shield of Faith
- Helmet of Salvation
- Sword of the Spirit
In the game, each of the Armor pieces has an active ability (can be used on a turn) and a passive ability (always in use).
Attributes: "FAITH"
- Faith - Secret attribute, you must trust in it to see what it does.
- Attack - For every level of Attack, gain 5% damage
- Intelligence - For every level, add 5 hit points to your mind
- Timing - For every level, add 1/10 of a second to the attack and dodge minigames
- Heart - For every level, add 5 hit points to your mind

How do I host a itch.io game on my website
You should be able to embed it into the website.
Here's an article that explains how to do that: Embedding a game from itch.io into your website: A step-by-step guide (devcodef1.com)
Do you have a website you'd like to show my game off on?
I only needed 3 of the arms,(Actually, I would've been fine with just one. belt of truth my first choice, the boots were nice too, for mob battles, but I only cared for the passive.) I jumped to the portal. and got levels like crazy. the game is too skill based to make intelligence or health be worth investing into. Faith seems to help attack somehow(Still unsure what it does) and timing seems ineffective and a very slow investment.(I couldn't get it to work). Though the miss penalty is harsh. As long as you have some patience and skill. its a cakewalk. You get so much exp later you can skip all the previous levels. I even invested all the points from the final fight into intel. just to tell. 20 intel wasn;t enough to survive a single hit -.- also, it's all or nothing when dodging. Just a whole mountain of complaints. the dodging gets tedious with time but.. well, its a gimmick I guess. also not knowing what each artifact will give you is annoying.(plus no choice but to brute force if, say, you accidentally click hell portal first time.) I like the other games better(This is the 3rd one I played, I think paul is the one collecting artifacts from the cursed one later.) Ern, right, construction criticism, right. Consider switching from heart to # of strikes you can survive from a boss. and keeping intel as anti mob. Also, Mob battles are really tedious. They get boring quick. Ah, right, maybe have a stat for making the bar smaller? If your going to make a gimmick, go all in. Ya know?, anyway, Am off.
Thanks for all of the helpful feedback! Armor of God was my first attempt at an RPG game, I think the Idea has a lot of potential but is still very unrefined. This is still my favorite game to date from a narrative / theming perspective. That final boss is super brutal, when I show the game to my friends I usually grab just the shield of faith to be able to have the free self-revive from it.
If I ever turn this into a full game, I'm definitely returning to your comment! The dodge system and the attributes could have had way more of an impact and I'll definitely revisit how they function.
Thank you so much!
Hope you enjoy the rest of my games!
Great game. I love how the combat is turned based. It's a great way to share a great story. Thank you for creating this!
Thank you for playing! Even though it's been almost two years, this still manages to be one of my favorite creations, especially from a story and theme perspective. I love sharing the Bible like this and hopefully will get the chance to do it again!
I loved finding this. With all the crazy happening in the world and my schooling and people, it was nice to have two things (The Lord and gaming) I love combined so well.
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it! To date this is my favorite game I've made narratively. A lot of that comes down to expressing my faith through a game.
Cool. I can't wait to play the rest of the story!
wow, beautiful game.. nice effects and the turn based battle part is unique.. the story is simple but very good.. and how you present the verses and how you used the armor of God in the game. very nice.. :D
Hi! I helped with the Armor of God game that you played for VimJam 2:
https://prodigalson.itch.io/armor-of-god
My friend and I have been designing different prototypes of an "Armor of God" game for years and have finally put something together using the concept. Thank you for playing it and commenting, or I never would have known your game existed.
It really just blows my mind on the similarities, not just for the 8bit game we made here, but how much you've implemented that matches things we've brainstormed and designed as well. Starting with a battle you can't win, the bosses being the opposite of the item you're collecting in that world (truth vs lie), and many other small things.
Thank you for the work you've done and for giving me inspiration. It just goes to show that there are ways to share God's word through videogames without the cringe and on-the-nose messages!
Yeah, my mind was entirely blown when I found your game. I haven't come across a ton of people making genuine Christian games on itch, so it was really special to find yours. To have the both the theme of "Armor of God" and same art style was pretty nuts.
If you wanted another layer of your mind being blown, a few months ago I found another version of Armor of God someone made back in 2018. It doesn't use the same art but is still very similar to my version and your vision: https://shinysnail.itch.io/the-armor-of-god
I've always felt like Armor of God has a large amount of potential, possibly as a full release. That's the beauty of jam games to me, they're an experiment, a way to see what works and what doesn't. God has clearly put this concept on several of our hearts and I think there's a reason behind that. I usually don't do this, but if you and your friend need someone else to bounce ideas with I'd be more then happy to help, maybe we could create a discord server and try to amass other Christian game developers. Just some ideas, feel free to take them or leave them.
Just played it, and I love all of the dialog and messages that are both physical like the king, mansion, etc but have spiritual meanings. Would you want to add me on Discord? Just so it's easier to chat?
